Garage48 Food 2022/23 is open for registration and idea submission!

BIO- AND FOOD TECHNOLOGISTS, CHEFS, AND FOOD ENTHUSIASTS – ARE YOU PASSIONATE ABOUT A MORE SUSTAINABLE FUTURE OF FOOD AND EAGER TO DEVELOP YOUR PRODUCT?

Garage48 Food 2022/23 is open for registration and idea submission!

WHAT

In co-organization with Garage48, Estonian University of Life Sciences and Estonian Research Council, and in partnership with Polli Horticultural Research Center, TFTAK, TalTech, BioCC, and Tartu Biotechnology Park (EIT Food Hub in Estonia), the second food technology hackathon will take place on 27-29 January 2023 in Estonia.

This year we have something extraordinary planned to boost physical food development!

HOW DOES IT WORK

Submission of science-driven ideas for food is open until 15 November. Selected ideas will get 2 months of free access to our partner laboratories (TFTAK, BioCC, TalTech, Polli Horticultural Center and the Estonian University of Life Sciences food laboratory) before the hackathon with the necessary mentorship to create their product!

???? Register and submit your idea on EVENTORNADO.

Garage48 Food hackathon 2022/23 on January 27-29 is an entirely ON-SITE event at the Estonian University of Life Sciences in Tartu. By then, idea owners should have their food product(s) ready to be tasted at the event by the jury.

At the hackathon, teams have to create a business and marketing plan for the product, a concept for packaging and some branding, and a clickable prototype (a mobile app or landing page). And you’ll have your product ready to enter the market!

TEAM FORMATION

There are many options to bring the necessary people together! You can register as an individual or a team, with an idea or without on Eventornado.

If you register as a bio- or food technologist and have an idea, submit it. During the 2-month laboratory period, the other registered individuals (necessary marketer, designer, business developer, etc.) have time to apply to join your team for the start of the hackathon.

Or, suppose you register as an individual bio- or food technologist without an idea. In that case, you can join someone else’s team that needs a food technologist.

Also, if you register as an individual with a physical food development idea but don’t have the skills to develop it yourself, submit your idea and registered bio- and food technologists can apply to join your team.

You can also register and submit your idea as a team. If you need any additional team members, they can apply to join your idea as well

Ideally, the team should consist of at least 4 members – an idea owner/field expert (food technology), designer, business developer and marketer. Teams should be completed by the start of the hackathon in January.

TIMELINE

15 November – physical food development-related ideas’ submission deadline →→ EVENTORNADO.

WHERE

Garage48 Food hackathon 2022/23 takes place on January 27-29 as an entirely ON-SITE event at the Estonian University of Life Sciences in Tartu.

FOCUS TOPICS

To keep you on track with the ideas, we’ve developed focus topics that give you an insight into what is most relevant and needed in the food industry and where it’s heading soon so you’d come up with solutions with an actual potential output for the market.

  • Bio and circular economy in food technology
  • Sustainable sources of proteins
  • Novel food

If your idea doesn’t fall under any of these categories, submit it anyway! We’re excited to see what you have in mind!

PRIZES

The best solutions will be awarded sweet prizes that help the teams to develop their prototypes further and get them ready to enter the market. The prize pool is growing. Stay tuned for updates!

TRANSPORT AND ACCOMMODATION

Transportation for participants to get to the hackathon venue in Tartu will be organized from Tallinn. Organizers will also do their best to provide accommodation for participants who come from outside of Tartu. More information will be given on an ongoing basis.
