About EIT
The European Institute of Innovation & Technology (EIT)
is an independent body of the European Union set up in 2008 to deliver innovation across Europe. The EIT brings together leading business, education and research organizations to form dynamic cross-border partnerships. These are called Innovation Communities and each is dedicated to finding solutions to a specific global challenge. EIT Innovation Communities develop innovative products and services, start new companies, and train a new generation of entrepreneurs. Together, we power innovators and entrepreneurs across Europe to turn their best ideas into products, services, jobs and growth.
About EIT Food
EIT Food, one of the EIT Innovation Communities, is a pan-European
consortium that focuses on entrepreneurship and innovation in the food sector. To drive innovation and entrepreneurship across Europe, EIT Food is building an inclusive and innovative community of diverse food sector partners. The members of the EIT Food community are world-class players in the international food domain: over 50 partners from leading businesses, research centres and universities across 13 countries.
About EIT RIS
The EIT Regional Innovation Scheme (EIT RIS) was created by the European Institute of innovation and Technology (EIT) to close the gap between regions that are leaders in innovation and those regions which are progressing. The programme is implemented with the involvement of local Hubs.
EIT Food RIS aims at strengthening those regions in Europe, which are modest and moderate in terms of innovation in agrifood sector. There is currently a network of 13 EIT Food HUBs located in 13 targeted RIS countries, one of which is Tartu Biotechnology Park in Tartu, Estonia.
Tartu Biotechnology Park and its goal as EIT Food Hub in Estonia
Tartu Biotechnology Park represents the EIT Food in Estonia and acts as a contact point for the local representatives in the agrifood sector. Tartu Biotechnology Park’s goal as EIT Food Hub is to promote EIT Food Community activities, to provide the necessary support for local entrepreneurial talent in the food sector and to help to reach the true potential of the local food sector.
Acting as EIT Food HUB in Estonia, Tartu Biotechnology Park supports innovators and entrepreneurs, organises local trainings and workshops for students, start-ups, researchers and farmers and supports dialogue with regional and national authorities.
