EIT Health

The European Institute of Innovation & Technology (EIT) is an independent body of the European Union set up in 2008 to deliver innovation across Europe. The EIT brings together leading business, education and research organisations to form dynamic cross-border partnerships. These are called the EIT Innovation Communities and each is dedicated to finding solutions to a specific global challenge.

EIT Health is one of the EIT Innovation Communities and a consortium of  over 140 partners from leading businesses, research centres and universities from across 15 EU countries. The goal of EIT Health is to contribute to increasing the competitiveness of European industry, improve the quality of life of Europe’s citizens and the sustainability of healthcare systems. Estonia is represented by EIT Health Scandinavia, the regional representation of Partners located also in Denmark and Sweden.

The EIT Regional Innovation Scheme (EIT RIS) is designed for EU Member States and Horizon 2020 Associated Countries in Europe who are modest and moderate innovators (according to the European Innovation Scoreboard), and where Innovation Communities have few or no partners. Strategically, the scheme is an additional offer to these countries to facilitate their engagement with the EIT Innovation Communities.

Tartu Biotechnology Park is EIT Health Hub in Estonia

As part of the EIT Health RIS, EIT Health has already established 14 EIT Health Hubs in 13 countries across Europe, one of which is Tartu Biotechnology Park in Tartu, Estonia. Tartu Biotechnology Park’s goal as EIT Health Hub is to promote EIT Health Community activities and help to reach the true potential of local healthcare startups.

In order to achieve our aims, we engage in active cooperation with Estonian and foreign biotechnology companies, research and development institutions, foundations for the development of entrepreneurship and biotechnology and other organizations, including state agencies and local authorities.
